Unyielding Land, Eternal Heroes: 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance

[Exhibition by Public Records Office, Government Records Service]

In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance, the Public Records Office of the Government Records Service has launched a new annual thematic exhibition titled “Unyielding Land, Eternal Heroes: 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance”. This exhibition showcases a rich collection of archival treasures and documentary heritage, inviting the public to revisit the painful chapter of Hong Kong’s history during the Japanese Occupation (1941–1945) and to learn about the heroic resistance of the Hong Kong Independent Battalion of the Dongjiang Column.

Exhibition Highlights

Members of the public are welcome to visit our Exhibition Hall to explore over 120 carefully selected items, including:

  • Photographs documenting the daily marches of the Hong Kong Independent Battalion of the Dongjiang Column and paintings depicting their heroic victories
  • A name list of the Hong Kong Independent Battalion members who died defending Hong Kong
  • The Register of Enemy Properties, which records assets confiscated by the Japanese Military Government
  • Archival records revealing post-war efforts by the Hong Kong Government, such as the recovery of looted books from the University of Hong Kong libraries and the demolition of the Japanese War Memorial

Visiting Information

The exhibition is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. (excluding public holidays) at the Exhibition Hall, 2/F, Hong Kong Public Records Building, 13 Tsui Ping Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon. Admission is free.

Interactive Experience

In addition to distinctive photo spots, visitors can experience the physical weight of the daily rice ration of “6.4 taels” during the Japanese Occupation—offering a tangible glimpse into the hardships endured by the people of Hong Kong at that time.

Online Exhibition

To complement the onsite experience, we have also launched an online exhibition featuring additional curated items: https://www.grs.gov.hk/ws/online/80VWR/en/home/index.html
