We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Archivist, Asia Pacific.
Principal Responsibilities
The ASP Archivist provides professional expertise and hands-on care to manage our archives collection in Hong Kong and support engagement projects across the Asia-Pacific (ASP) region and globally. Key responsibilities include:
- Grow and improve access to the ASP archive collection. This includes collecting, appraising, accessioning, ingesting, cataloguing, tracking and digitising records
- Conduct detailed historical research to respond to enquiries from academics, genealogists, journalists, local historians, special interest groups etc. This also includes retrieving records and supervising visiting researchers
- Plan and deliver preservation/conservation projects to ensure the long-term security of the archives
- Deliver tours and history presentations at the HK Archive Centre for employees, clients and other stakeholders
- Support content development for the HSBC History website through research, writing and data quality programmes. This involves acting as the primary contact point for external vendors working on outsourced digitisation
- Participate in other engagement projects that leverage our heritage (e.g., anniversary events, history talks, exhibitions, social media content)
Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders
- Implements policies and procedures that increase accessibility to the bank’s historical archives (e.g., catalogues records in the Global Digital Archive system in accordance with HSBC’s cataloguing standards)
- Provides specialist expertise to permanently preserve physical archives
- Provides specialist research and historical knowledge
Leadership & Teamwork
- Develops strong relationships with other colleagues in Archives and Global Communications & Brand in order to facilitate execution of Archives activities
- Keeps up to date with latest professional research and techniques, in order to execute work to world-class standards
Requirements
- Qualification in Archives Management (or related discipline) and/or proven track record of implementing collections management programmes
- Expert knowledge of archives trends and current best practice
- Good presentation skills
- Research and storytelling skills with some experience of curating history topics
- Strong interpersonal and project management skills
- Some experience of Preservica software and processing born-digital records is an advantage
- Written and spoken fluency in English and Cantonese is essential, Mandarin is preferred
