Eileen Chang, one of the most influential writers in modern Chinese literature, has strong ties to Hong Kong. HKMU is honoured to announce that it has received a generous donation of precious documents and relics from Eileen Chang, Stephen Soong and his wife, Mae Fong Soong, from Dr Ronald Soong, and his elder sister, Mrs Elaine Soong Kingman, the administrators of the late Eileen Chang’s estate. The donation includes manuscripts and personal items belonging to Eileen Chang and correspondence between Chang and her close friends, Stephen Soong and Mae Fong Soong (the parents of the Soong siblings), and others. These precious authentic documents and relics will be preserved and permanently housed in HKMU and will serve as a lasting legacy, vital for academics and others in the cultural field. The University will hold a donation ceremony on the morning of 12 February, followed by a sharing session, which will be live streamed online. Dr Soong, along with Dr Rebecca Leung, Associate Dean (Administration and Development) and Associate Professor in the School of Arts and Social Sciences of HKMU, and Mr Owen Tam, University Librarian of HKMU, will share the significance of this donation and their visions for the preservation and research of Chinese modern literary works.
You are cordially invited to view the live streaming on HKMU’s Facebook (hkmuofficial) and YouTube (HKMUChannel) channels on 12 February 2025 at 11:50am. The sharing session will be conducted in Putonghua.
