International Archives Week 2024: Archives of Us

Our past is not just hoarded in established archival institutions – it can also be revealed by records hidden in different organisations and our homes. Hong Kong Archives Society will celebrate the International Archives Week with the theme "Archive of Us" from 7th June (Friday) to 9th June (Sunday), to uncover stories behind these hidden gems and how they should be preserved.

The event will comprise an archives expo, talks, sharing, guided tours and a visit to a school archive rarely open to the public. The talks and guided tours will take place at the Po Leung Kuk Main Building, a historic building recently elevated to Grade 1. Eight speakers will share from the points of view of custodians, conservators and researchers on preserving and researching our precious records. Seventeen organisations will come together at Po Leung Kuk Headquarters and showcase their treasured collections, allowing researchers to discover new archival resources and the wider public to explore connections between archives and collective identity.

Built in 1932, the building beautifully blends Neo-Classical and contemporary Art Deco styles. Its ground floor nowadays features the Kuk’s museum whilst the upper floor remains as the children’s dormitory, dutifully serving its original function for over 90 years.
