The Library now seeks an enthusiastic team player to join its Special Collections and Archives team. The successful candidate will be a mature and creative problem solver, serving in a small team responsible for managing and providing access to special and archival collections. The appointee will:
- Process and make accessible archival and library materials according to international standards;
- Provide user services at service counters and online;
- Manage the Library’s archival system;
- Contribute to digitisation and web archiving programs; and
- Assist with managing student and part-time helpers.
Applicants should possess at least a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of four years of experience. This position requires a good eye for detail, excellent communication skills, high-level computer skills, and a service-oriented attitude. A good command of English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua) and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team are important. A working knowledge of ArchivesSpace is highly desirable. Applicants will be required to undertake shift duties at the Main Library’s User Services Counter on evenings/weekends/public holidays.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a written test.
The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Candidates with less experience or academic qualifications may be considered for appointment as Assistant Library Officer.

Assistant Librarian I/II (23240359)
The Library now seeks a highly motivated Special Collections and Archives Librarian at the rank of Assistant Librarian I or II. Reporting to the University Librarian, the successful candidate will be a proactive and dynamic manager demonstrating a compelling strategic vision for the development of the Library’s Special Collections and Archives.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operation of Special Collections and Archives, including programme planning, collection development, and the implementation of digitisation and other digital projects;
- Promote special and archival collections through publications, social media, exhibitions and presentations. Represent the Library at conferences and professional meetings;
- Provide high quality instructional, research, and reference services both in person and online;
- Develop and nurture donor relations through active engagement in the community;
- Identify internal and external funding opportunities; and
- Serve on the Library Collections and Archives Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Team.
Requirements:
- A good university degree plus a recognised professional qualification in library and information science (MLIS or equivalent) and/or in Archival Management;
- At least 5 years’ relevant experience, preferably in an academic library setting, in managerial, supervisory, and leadership roles;
- In-depth knowledge of library and/or archival systems, services, resources and trends;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with stakeholders within and outside the Library; and
- An excellent command of English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua).
Reference monthly salary range: HK$41,810 – HK$90,255
