We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an ASP Archives and Outreach Manager.

 

Principal Responsibilities

Role purpose (overall high level summary of the role)

The Global Archives team collects, manages and communicates HSBC's heritage and archives in support of the bank's purpose, values and strategy. We preserve the corporate memory of the organisation, and drive engagement with employees, clients, shareholders, dignitaries, regulators and other stakeholders.

The team is split between London, HK, NYC and Paris. We provide a wide-range of internal and public-facing services to users around the world.

The Archives and Outreach Manager provides professional expertise to lead our community outreach programme in Hong Kong. The role supports additional engagement projects and collections management activities.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leads and develops the outreach programme at the Hong Kong Archive Centre. This involves building relationships with external audiences in the community (e.g. schools, special interest groups, archive and heritage sector peers, universities) and delivering tours and talks to share HSBC's heritage with them

  • Manages the Heritage Ambassador programme that supports our outreach activity. This involves selecting, training and supervising bank employees who volunteer to help run the tours and talks

  • Participates in the team's wide range of additional engagement projects (e.g. tours and talks for employees, developing content for the History website, delivering temporary exhibitions)

  • Undertakes significant hands-on archival projects to help improve access to the ASP collection. This involves collecting, appraising, ingesting, cataloguing, repackaging and digitizing records (both physical and digital)

  • Participates in the team's enquiry service. This involves carrying out detailed historical research to respond to academics, genealogists, journalists, local historians, special interest groups etc.

  • Governance and Committee Memberships (membership of ExCos, Risk Management Meeting)

Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders

  • Engages, builds and manages relationships with community groups

  • Delivers the public-facing outreach programme - and the accompanying Heritage Ambassadors programme - to support the bank's purpose, values and strategy

  • Provides specialist story-telling and subject matter expertise to drive stakeholder engagement via various other projects and channels

  • Implements policies and procedures that increase accessibility to the bank's historical archives (e.g. catalogues records in the Global Digital Archive system in accordance with HSBC's cataloguing standards)

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Leads the team of Heritage Ambassadors to co-ordinate their volunteering work on the outreach programme

  • Develops strong relationships with other colleagues in Archives and the wider Global Communications and Brand function to facilitate execution of Archives activities

  • Keeps up-to-date with latest professional trends and best practice in order to execute work to world-class standards

Qualifications

Functional Knowledge

  • Postgraduate qualification in Archives Management (or related discipline) and/or proven track record delivering archives and heritage outreach programmes, ideally within a corporate environment

  • Excellent presentation skills and confidence to engage with wide range of guests - from students to senior executives

  • Strong research and storytelling skills with proven ability to strategically curate topics across a wide range of complex subjects

  • Leadership qualities; strategic planning; research and project management skills

  • Expert knowledge of archive trends and current best practice

  • Strong cataloguing experience following archival standards such as ISAD(G)

  • Experience working with digital archives and knowledge of Preservica software is an advantage

  • Written and spoken fluency in English and Cantonese is essential. Mandarin is preferred
